Natural disasters and sex

Life is crazy, prepare for anything

We hope you never, ever experience a devastating tsunami, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, fire, flood, or blizzard, but sadly these things happen. And since we want you primed for anything life throws at you, here are a few tips to keep you on top of your birth control should the unexpected occur.

Why? Because a lot of babies are born nine months after natural disasters. So please remember this advice to stay safe and prepared for some let’s-get-through-this-emergency-together sex. Just in case…

  • Make a plan. Nobody thinks they’ll get caught in a natural disaster, but it could happen, so prepare. Here are a bunch of checklists to help you get organized.

  • Build an emergency kit. San Francisco’s guide is a good one, so start there.

  • Stock up on your birth control and have back up in case you run out of it. Remember: Long lasting, super effective methods can really keep you covered in an emergency.

  • Stash condoms and/or emergency contraception in your purse or car. This is for extra protection and peace of mind. No one has to know it’s there but you. Just be sure to replace them when they expire so they’re always usable. Also, watch out if they get exposed to extreme temperatures. It can make them less effective, so be aware of the weather’s impact and don’t leave birth control in a really hot or cold car.

According to a poll conducted by Trojan Condoms, Americans love to get it on during weather emergencies. (That includes the 70% of us who admit to having sex during tornados or thunderstorms.) It’s hard to know how you’ll react when facing a crisis. That’s why it’s good to prepare for anything, including getting laid. After all, who needs the additional stress of a pregnancy scare in the middle of a catastrophe?

Be careful out there,
