I thought birth control was free with insurance—why am I still paying out-of-pocket for it?
Birth control is expensive.
If you have health insurance—whether it’s through your parents, school, work, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace, or Medicaid—chances are good that you’ll be able to get birth control with no out-of-pocket cost. If you don’t have insurance, or if you have an insurance plan that doesn’t cover birth control, depending on the method you are using, it can be expensive to get or use your method.

Over-the-counter methods and generic options usually cost less. You can try using the pill (there is even and over-the-counter option or condoms. If you can’t pay for birth control, the pull-out method doesn’t cost anything to use.
