Doing it for your country: U.S. presidents and sex

George Washington was born on February 22, but every third Monday in February we celebrate his birthday with one of our favorite things: A three-day weekend.

This year we’re kicking off Presidents’ Day Bedsider style by sharing some presidential sex stories. So much power. So many scandals.

• Warren Harding. It’s well known that our 29th President liked his mistresses. But it must have pissed off Mrs. Harding that two of them were her friends.
  
• JFK. Threesomes. Movie stars. Taking baths with a 19-year-old intern. A permanent hotel room for shagging. His affairs are legendary.
  
• Franklin Roosevelt. His wife, Eleanor, said a lot of cool things, including, “Marriages are two way streets and when they are not happy both must be willing to adjust. Both must love.” She knew he had a long-term affair with Lucy Mercer, the 22-year-old social secretary she hired in 1913.
  
• Thomas Jefferson. Secretly fathered children with his own slave, Sally Hemings.
  
• Grover Cleveland. During his presidential bid, it was revealed that he had a child out of wedlock who was given up for adoption. He won in spite of the scandal.
  
• Dwight Eisenhower. Fell for his chauffeur. Supposedly wanted to divorce his wife for her.
  
• Lyndon Johnson. They say he had a harem of women to hook up with while in office.
